Educational Psychologist Assessment
As part of an Educational Psychologist Assessment I will identify and give advice to parents and teachers on supporting children and young people with:
- Learning difficulties
- Specific learning difficulties (e.g. dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADHD)
- Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Language and communication difficulties
- Gifted and talented
The type of Educational Psychologist Assessment required depends upon each child and young person’s needs and age. I carry out psychological assessments from nursery age children through to adults. The most common assessment types include:
Early Years
If there are concerns about a child’s early development then I can offer advice based upon an assessment, which usually entails observations and a play-based assessment looking at key areas of child development. For more specific difficulties I may also use screening questionnaires with parents and early years practitioners.
School Age to Adult
For concerns regarding learning, a cognitive assessment may be appropriate looking at key thinking skills, which include language comprehension, non-verbal reasoning, working memory and processing speed. I also carry out assessment of attainments in literacy and numeracy.
Other concerns may warrant more specific assessments; looking at self-esteem, emotional and/or behavioural difficulties, sensory processing and social interaction difficulties.
My Educational Psychologist Assessments are thorough and provide a clear picture of the child or young person’s strengths as well as weaknesses. I make recommendations which are tailored to the needs identified and circulate the reports within three weeks of the date of assessment.
