Educational Psychologist in Schools

I offer professional services as an Educational Psychologist in schools. Having been a class teacher, I understand the implications of teaching pupils with varied needs and learning styles. I also know what interventions are likely to be effective or manageable on top of the usual demands of teaching.

Collaborative working

I find that often the best outcomes for the children or young people I work with are when the assessment is a collaborative process between them, their parents and school. Prior to an individual assessment I like to gain background information from teachers on what they feel the pupil’s strengths and weaknesses are, as well as hear of the interventions which have met with success. Following the distribution of my report, I offer a joint problem solving meeting between school staff and parents. This meeting provides the opportunity to go through my report and ensure that the recommendations made are understood and that all those involved offer a consistent approach in their support.

As well as being an EP in schools working with individual pupils, I am often asked to carry out other more systemic interventions such as:

  • Planning and carrying out research to inform school improvement.
  • Working directly with teachers to help target and tailor learning or behavioural interventions.
  • Offer Q&A sessions as well as regular input to staff or cluster meetings.

Training

I offer a wide range of training packages, which can be tailored to suit the individual needs of an educational setting. From a few hours to a full day’s delivery, I offer training packages in the following areas:

Dyslexia, Child Development, Memory Skills, Dyscalculia, Solution Focused Approaches, Attachment, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Writing Individual Educational Plans and Pupil Friendly IEPs, Positive Behaviour Management and Emotional Literacy.

Access Arrangements

I am qualified and experienced in carrying out assessments for exam dispensations such as additional time to help alleviate the effects of a particular learning difficulty.
